SPDI 2200 Latin American Literature in English Translation (3)
English translations of Modern Latin American literature give students the opportunity to expand their canonical literary knowledge. Short stories and novels originally written in Spanish and Portuguese bring an added dimension to understanding oneself and others from Latin America. An additional focus includes how interpretation and translation are greatly affected by internal and external ideas and experiences. (SSDI)

Designed to acquaint students with the stories, novels, poems, plays, and essays written in English and within the existing borders of the United States by Cuban-American, Nuyorican, Puerto Rican, Dominican-American, and Chicano writers. Designed to acquaint students with the rich and varied history and experiences of Latinos in the United States. Investigations of the Latin American diaspora will predominate. Conducted in English. Springs. (PPDI)
SPDI 2270 Spanish Cinema (4)
This course will help students gain a deeper understanding of the past and present of Spain, Latin America, and the Caribbean societies through their cinematic productions. Through film, students will explore major historical events of Spanish-speaking societies as well as contemporary issues such as memory and oblivion, immigration and exile, memory, marginalized histories, and globalization.
