Minors

An academic minor consists of at least 15 credit hours of courses. The courses selected to fulfill the minor must be approved by the department or faculty group that offers the minor program.

Minors are not stand-alone programs. Minors may only be pursued while the student is enrolled in their degree program and cannot be finished or awarded after the student has earned their degree.

  • Students may not major and minor in the same discipline.
  • Students with a minor must complete six credits of 3000/4000 level courses outside the major discipline. These six credits could be taken as part of the minor.
  • For a second minor, at least nine credits must be different from the major and the first minor.
  • For a third, or subsequent minor, at least nine additional credits (per minor) must be different from the major and any other declared minor.

To earn a minor students must achieve at least a 2.00 grade point average in their minor. One exception is the pre-law minor, which requires a 3.00 grade point average. The Declaration of an Academic Minor form and other important information can be located on theĀ registrar's office website.
